25 Final-Year Students Sent Home from Agona Swedru SHS Over Same-Sɛx Proposal Incident

Twenty-five final-year students at Agona Swedru Senior High School have been indefinitely suspended following a violent confrontation reportedly triggered by a same-sex romantic proposal, Onua News reported.

School officials say the incident began when a male student allegedly expressed romantic interest in another male colleague, who turned down the proposal. The student who declined the offer is believed to have confided in his peers, who allegedly encouraged him to pretend to accept and set a trap for the proposer.

At the agreed meeting time, a group of students—friends of the one who was approached—are said to have attacked the student who made the proposal. In response, the assaulted student allegedly alerted his dorm mates, sparking a retaliatory assault.

The conflict quickly escalated into a broader fight involving several students, leading the school administration to step in with disciplinary action.

The Headmistress, Mrs. Golda Esi Andam, confirmed that all 25 students involved were given the opportunity to defend themselves before the suspension was imposed.

“These students will still be allowed to take their final exams, but only under parental supervision,” she stated. “This should serve as a reminder that the Ghana Education Service (GES) takes discipline and its code of conduct seriously.”

Mrs. Andam stressed that while disciplinary measures have been enforced, the students’ right to education remains intact. She urged all learners to respect school rules to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
