Top man of the Ghana Football Association has given reasons why the immediate past coach of the Black stars, Otto Addo, started Baba Rahman ahead of the likes of Gideon Mensah.
Ghanaians sent roaring backlash to Baba for his unfortunate shambolic performance against Uruguay. Many, without proof, associated Baba Rahman’s selection to Kurt Okraku’s influence.
According to the Executive Council member of the GFA, Frederick Acheampong, Baba proved to be better offensively than Gideon Mensah and the other full backs at training and Otto Addo was going in for an attacking style of play.
“I asked someone who’s close to the team and he gave me reasons why Otto Addo started Baba Rahman in the game against Uruguay. He said Baba is better (offensively) than the other full backs and Otto Addo was was going for a win so he opted for Baba” — Fredrick Acheampong told Kessben FM.
“What Otto Addo did, it was easy for everyone to conclude that Kurt Okraku influenced the decision to start Baba but that was not the case. Why will you start a player who did not perform well in the first game?” — he added.
After Ghana’s early exit, he said he was “not happy, yet satisfied” with the general performance of the Black Stars. The GFA official was pleased because he saw a massive improvement in the Ghana team as compared to what Ghana presented for the recently past AFCON.
“The black stars I saw gives me enough hope… I think the technical handlers have done a good job.”
