Teacher Jailed 20 Years Over Defilement Proved Not Guilty, Freed After Serving Six Years 

Mr. Maxwell Barnieh has been acquitted and freed by the the Accra High Court after being found not guilty of defiling a minor in 2015.

The teacher who was arrested one month after being employed into teaching and was jailed in 2016, narrated his ordeal in an interview with Connect FM’s Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson on the ‘Omanbapa morning show.

He said he was much excited when he finally secured a job as a teacher in one of the Junior High Schools in the Greater Accra Region. He was arrested one faithful day when he was invigilating an without cause.

“I got to the Police station and I was accused of defiling a student I do not even know. I looked into the face of the girl and I had not even met her before because she was not in my class. I still did not understand what was happening and the case eventually proceeded to court,” he indicated as quoted by 3news.

Mr. Barnieh further said one private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, appeared to his rescue by filing for an appeal. During the appeal, the prosecution was not able to prove with evidence to show that it was the accused person who defiled the victim. Mr Barnieh did not even know the girl in question.

Her ladyship Justice Mary M.E Nsenkyere (Mrs), later ruled the appellant accordingly acquitted and discharged.
