Police authorities took control of the situation at Osino Presby Senior High and Technical School following a violent clash between students and residents from Nsuapemso in the Fanteakwa South District, resulting in one fatality.

The confrontation, which transpired on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, has prompted a heightened police presence around the school premises and its environs to preempt any potential retaliatory actions.

According to reliable sources cited by Citi News, the conflict stemmed from escalating tensions dating back to a previous altercation on Monday, February 19, 2024, between Osino Presby Senior High students and members of the local community.

Allegedly, the catalyst for the clash was the alleged confiscation of a mobile phone belonging to a town resident by one of the students, followed by physical assault during a school debate held in another community.

In retaliation, on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, a group of six town youths returned to the school, sparking a violent confrontation with the students. Attempts to set fire to the boys’ dormitory were thwarted by the students, leading to a scuffle in which one town youth was fatally injured and pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Additionally, a vehicle belonging to a resident was reportedly set ablaze by the students.

Responding swiftly to the escalating situation, the Fanteakwa South District Security Council (DISEC) convened an emergency meeting and deployed law enforcement personnel to the school, with reinforcements from Koforidua. Their primary objective is to restore order, enhance security, and prevent further escalation.

DISEC officials have visited the family of the deceased to express condolences and reassured them of a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of this tragic incident, authorities are urging calm and cooperation to facilitate the ongoing investigation and restore peace in the area.
