The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has announced an indefinite strike starting Thursday, January 2, 2025.
The decision was reached during an Emergency National Council meeting held on Monday, December 30, 2024, as outlined in a statement released on December 31.
CETAG indicated that the industrial action was prompted by unresolved concerns highlighted in prior warnings issued on September 26 and December 23, 2024, which the National Labour Commission (NLC) failed to address.
The association cited the government’s persistent failure to honor agreed terms and disregard for the compulsory arbitration award issued by the NLC on May 2, 2023, as key factors driving their decision to strike.
“The National Council of CETAG unequivocally states that our members will not return to the colleges to perform any official duties, including teaching, supervising project work, or overseeing macro-teaching, until every last pesewa owed is paid into our accounts. This strike action complies with section 159 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651),” the statement emphasized.
CETAG’s leadership has vowed to sustain the strike until their demands are fully met.
