A 13-member committee has been inaugurated to review the curriculum for Kindergarten (KG) to Basic Six in Ghana. The committee is chaired by Professor Amina Plummer and comprises experienced professionals from the education sector.
The inauguration ceremony was led by the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, who highlighted the importance of education in shaping the future of the country. He emphasized that the curriculum review is a visionary step aimed at preparing children for the real world, equipping them with critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Mr. Iddrisu stressed the need for the revised curriculum to reflect 21st-century skills and real-life experiences while promoting national values such as honesty, respect, integrity, patriotism, and civic responsibility.
He also urged the committee to resolve the long-standing debate over Ghana’s founder in the new curriculum, stating that children should grow up with a clear understanding of the country’s historical foundations.
Members of the committee include representatives from the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, National Council for Curriculum and Assessment, National Teaching Council, and other key institutions.
The Minister thanked the committee members for accepting the task and called on them to deliver a curriculum that would help shape ethical and responsible future leaders for Ghana.
