Parents at Aggrey Memorial Senior High School in Cape Coast were left stunned during a recent PTA meeting when the headmistress, Mrs. Dorothy Adentwi-Hayford, boldly displayed seized condoms, pills, and other unauthorized items confiscated from students.

In a passionate address to the gathering, Mrs. Adentwi-Hayford said the visual display was intended to highlight growing indiscipline among a section of the student body. She emphasized that while most students remain disciplined, a persistent few engage in behaviours that undermine the school’s values.

“These include sneaking out without exeats, bullying, stealing, truancy, and a general lack of seriousness towards academic work,” she noted.

The headmistress, however, refrained from naming the students involved, assuring parents that appropriate disciplinary actions — coupled with counselling — would be taken.

Even more troubling, she said, was the attitude of some parents who, instead of collaborating with the school, verbally abused or cursed teachers for enforcing discipline. She urged parents to verify facts before reacting to complaints from their children.

“As we work to transition Aggrey from a category B to a category A school, indiscipline will not be tolerated,” she said, announcing the introduction of stricter rules.

Mrs. Adentwi-Hayford called on parents to play a more active role in their children’s upbringing beyond material support and to respect the school’s security measures.

Several parents, during an open forum, backed the headmistress’ firm stance, praising her for her commitment to upholding high standards.
