The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has directed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to refund an amount of GHC 29,458 that was wrongly paid to two teachers in the Jirapa District of the Upper West Region.
The directive follows a sitting held on Friday, August 22, 2025, during which officials from the GES appeared before the Committee to answer queries contained in the Auditor-General’s report.
PAC ordered that the refund be made within 30 days into the Auditor-General’s recoveries account. The District Director of Education for Jirapa has been tasked to supervise the payment of the said amount or risk being held personally liable to make the refund.
In addition, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, has also been instructed to ensure the transaction is carried out in full compliance with the Committee’s directive.
The Committee emphasized its commitment to ensuring accountability and the protection of public funds, warning that negligence in handling state resources would not be tolerated.
This directive forms part of ongoing efforts by PAC to enforce strict adherence to financial regulations across all government institutions.
