The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the reopening of applications for the 2025 teacher promotion exercise. Serving teachers and officers who meet the eligibility criteria are invited to apply for consideration to higher ranks within the service. The ranks available include Deputy Director, Assistant Director I, Assistant Director II, and Principal Superintendent.
According to the GES, applicants for the position of Deputy Director must have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Director I in or before 2021 and should have remained at post since then, except for approved leave periods. For Assistant Director I, candidates must have been promoted to Assistant Director II in or before 2021, while applicants for Assistant Director II should have attained the rank of Principal Superintendent in or before 2021, also with continuous service. Teachers applying for Principal Superintendent must have been promoted to Senior Superintendent I in or before 2021. Additionally, any teacher with an approved undergraduate degree will be automatically placed at this rank.
The GES also clarified the conditions for teachers seeking to use Master’s or PhD qualifications for accelerated promotion. Such programmes must fall under the approved GES course of study, and the certificate should not have been obtained before the applicant’s last promotion. Furthermore, those applying for Assistant Director II, Assistant Director I, or Deputy Director must have completed their Master’s or PhD programme in or before 2023.
Applications are to be submitted online via the official link: https://bit.ly/GESPROMOTION25. Applicants are required to upload a recent passport-size photograph, their last promotion, appointment, or upgrading letter, as well as the highest academic certificate being used for the promotion. All supporting documents must be in PDF format (with the exception of the passport picture, which should be in JPEG, JPG, or PNG) and must be clear and legible.
The application window officially opens on Thursday, 11th September 2025, and will close on Thursday, 2nd October 2025. The GES has emphasized that all teachers who previously applied must re-apply under the reopened process.
