The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, joined President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, for the official launch of the STEM Box initiative for basic schools on Thursday, 4th December. The ceremony marked what many describe as a major turning point in Ghana’s pursuit of practical, future-focused science education.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Davis expressed profound appreciation to the government for its unwavering commitment to strengthening science and technology delivery in schools. He described the STEM Box as a “game-changing toolkit” designed to bring hands-on, practical STEM learning directly into classrooms across the country.

According to him, the introduction of the STEM Box will ignite curiosity among pupils, nurture creativity, and equip learners with the essential skills needed to thrive in a world rapidly shaped by robotics, artificial intelligence, automation, and broader digital transformation.

Prof. Davis further stressed that the GES remains fully dedicated to supporting teachers with the necessary training and guidance to ensure the effective implementation of the initiative. The nationwide rollout, he noted, represents an important milestone in preparing Ghanaian children to become confident problem-solvers, innovators, and leaders in STEM fields.

GES also extended its gratitude to all partners involved in making the programme a reality, while appealing to school leaders, teachers, parents, and community members to actively support this new chapter in Ghana’s STEM education journey.

With the STEM Box expected to reach classrooms across the country, the initiative reaffirms a shared vision: STEM in every classroom. A brighter future for every child.
