About 565,000 candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have qualified for placement into Senior High Schools (SHS) and Senior High Technical Schools. The Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) Secretariat Coordinator, Sherif Sulemana, disclosed this on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Thursday, September 3.
According to him, nearly 620,000 candidates sat for this year’s BECE, but about 55,000 candidates did not meet the requirements for placement.
He explained that candidates must pass both English Language and Mathematics to qualify for placement. A candidate who fails either subject is not eligible for placement.
Mr Sulemana also said only about 17 per cent of candidates, representing around 107,000 students, obtained aggregates between 6 and 18.
He added that about 35 per cent, representing approximately 252,000 candidates, obtained aggregates between 6 and 24.
The CSSPS Secretariat is now preparing for the placement of qualified candidates into SHS and Senior High Technical Schools across the country.
