GES directs all schools to observe Eid and Easter holidays; boarding students allowed to stay with proper care and supervision.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has instructed all schools nationwide to observe the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr and Easter celebrations as official public holidays.
In a notice dated March 17, 2026, and signed by Acting Deputy Director-General Prof. Smile Dzisi, the Service stated that the holidays—March 20 and 23 for Eid, and April 3 and 6 for Easter—must be respected by all schools.
GES explained that the directive is to allow both students and staff to fully take part in these important religious and national events.
The Service also noted that boarding students who choose not to travel home during the break can remain on campus. However, school authorities are expected to ensure their safety, feeding, and proper supervision throughout the period.
Regional directors have been asked to pass on the directive to all schools through district offices and ensure full compliance. GES further expressed appreciation for cooperation in implementing the guidelines.
