Mobile Money Agents Associations in Ghana have taken a bold step to address concerns over agent compensation, announcing a temporary measure to cap cash withdrawals at GH₵1,000 per transaction starting December 1, 2023.
The decision, supported by key associations such as MMAAG, ABAG, MoMAG, and NoMAAG, aims to foster fair compensation for agents amid ongoing negotiations with service providers. The move is seen as a strategic push to highlight the crucial role agents play in the Mobile Money ecosystem, with a plea for stakeholder support in ensuring sustainable services.
The associations have set a one-month timeline for further discussions, warning of additional actions if a satisfactory resolution is not achieved. They have urged cooperation from all stakeholders, including customers, emphasizing the importance of solidarity for the success of Mobile Money services in Ghana. The decision has been communicated to major players such as MTN Mobile Money Limited, AT Cash, Vodafone Cash, the Bank of Ghana, and relevant telecommunication organizations.
