Over the weekend, the emergence of uniforms for teachers in Ghana arrested the attention of social media users. Those who posted these stylish clothing, and some commenters allegedly stated that, it was the initiative of the Ghana Education Service to create a unique identification for teachers.
Some teachers, out of misinformation, threw a whole lot of insults on their leaders for the idea. Some even claimed that, it was a means to deduct monies from their salaries as they deducted monies and provided “low class” laptops for them.
One Mr. Opoku MENSAH Yaw, a worker at GES earlier stated that “We’ve not instructed or developed any policy on uniform for teachers as speculated on social media. The uniform was used for an occasion by Akwasiase Methodist School in Tepa Municipal last year. Disregard any report of uniforms introduced by the Education Ministry or GES.”
The Ghana Education Service has also issued a DISCLAIMER on their official page on Facebook that, such decisions are not taken within a blink of an eye so Ghanaians should disregard the circular, as in, “DISREGARD THIS FAKE NEWS.”
“GES is one of the largest Gov’t agencies in Ghana. We employ more than half of all Gov’t employees. If we want to introduce uniforms for teachers we won’t do that through social media and over the weekend. In this era of unionized labour GES cannot introduce a uniform for teachers without engaging the teacher unions.” -GES stated on Facebook.
Moreover, Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwa Profile (Director General GES), has also come out to refute the involvement of GES in the claims on social media. He stated that, people should disregard such hasty trends on social media.
Clothing of distinctive design worn by members of a particular group as a means of identification has been in existence for a while now.
