NAGRAT Calls GES To Reinstate WASS Headmistress With Immediate Effect

One of the major teacher associations in Ghana, NAGRAT, has called for the reinstatement of headmistress of West Africa Senior High School. Dr Shine Agartha Ofori was interdicted by GES for allegedly collecting illegal monies from students of the school, which the association sees her interdiction as inappropriate.

According to Mr. Angel Carbonou, in his address on Thursday, July 20, 2023, it is totally wrong to use individual heads of schools as scapegoats when the schools lack amenities.

He added, parents are not forced, (but through dialogue) that they might pay certain amounts of money to support running of schools since government intervention delays or refuses to hit the schools, so acting on a parent’s complaints create negative impressions.

“complaints made by a parent creates the impression as though they were forced to make payments, does not solve the problems the schools are faced with, rather, “you are just isolating one person and just picking the person as a scapegoat”, Mr. Carbonou said.

“…We have schools names withheld that collect money from parents or parents moblising themselves to contribute money for the upkeep of the school, and we have ministers and government officials whose children attend those schools and they contribute to the payment of these things,” he added.

Speaking on behalf of all teachers and victims of similar situations, Mr. Angel Carbonou counseled GES and demanded that Dr Shine Agartha Ofori is reinstated with immediate effect.

“We call on the Ghana Education Service to immediately reinstate the headmistress of West African Senior High School and any other headmistresses or headmasters in a similar situation”.
