President Mahama Orders Urgent Action to Fill USAID Funding Gap

Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, has instructed the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, to quickly address a funding gap caused by the suspension of USAID’s international funding program.

The funding shortfall is estimated at $156 million, and the President is especially worried about the $78.2 million gap that could affect important health programs. These include malaria prevention, maternal and child health, family planning, reproductive health, nutrition, and HIV/AIDS programs. The lack of funds could disrupt the supply of antiretroviral drugs, testing, and prevention efforts.

To prevent serious consequences, President Mahama has asked the Finance Minister to prioritize these critical areas when finding alternative funding solutions.
