A 28-year-old driver, Samuel Issah Abdulai, was arrested on his wedding day for allegedly defrauding three people of GH₵352,000 under the pretense of securing them visas. He has been charged with fraud and forgery but has pleaded not guilty.
Abdulai is accused of promising electronic visas to Mongolia, Georgia, Albania, and Malaysia. The Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah, granted him bail at GH₵150,000 with three sureties, one to be justified. He must report to the police every two weeks.
According to Chief Inspector Daniel Danku, Abdulai and an accomplice advertised online between September and December 2024, offering visa services. He claimed to be in Belarus and convinced his victims—traders Ohenewa Sarah and Matilda Ayaaba, along with businesswoman Aisha Ahmed—that he could secure them visas.
The complainants paid him various sums via mobile money, but he disappeared. In December 2024, Abdulai resurfaced, sending them what he claimed were electronic visas. Suspecting fraud, the victims tracked him down and arrested him at his wedding in Nkawie, Ashanti Region, handing him over to the police.
Investigations later confirmed that all the visas were fake. The case is ongoing.
