Kukurantumi Police Station Attacked After Suspect Dies in Custody

Tension arise at Kukurantumi in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region after enraged youth attacked and set parts of the local police station ablaze.

The chaos broke out on Sunday, September 21, following news of the death of a suspect while in police custody.

Witnesses say the youth, demanding clarity on how the suspect died, massed up at the station and later turned violent. In the heat of the confrontation, portions of the building were set on fire.

A team of officers from the Eastern Regional Police Command was quickly dispatched to the town and managed to bring the situation under control.

Although no injuries have been recorded, the incident has created deep unease in the community as investigations into both the suspect’s death and the destruction of the police station get underway.
