Lawyer and activist Osagyefo Oliver Barker-Vormawor has alleged that Ghanaian national Abu Trica has been rushed to the Police Hospital, raising fresh concerns over his whereabouts and access to legal representation.
In a statement shared on Facebook on Wednesday 8th July, 2026, Barker-Vormawor said he received information from sources at the Police Hospital indicating that Abu Trica had been taken there for medical attention.
According to the lawyer, he and his legal team have been denied access to their client for more than a week despite repeated requests to meet him.
“It has been over a week; we haven’t been allowed access to Abu Trica as lawyers, and our request to meet him has not been granted,” Barker-Vormawor stated.
He further claimed that the legal team does not know where Abu Trica is being held, adding that Interpol, which he said initially had custody of him, has informed them that it no longer has him in its custody.
Barker-Vormawor disclosed that his legal team intends to file a habeas corpus application by Wednesday if authorities continue to deny Abu Trica access to legal counsel.
“We will be filing a habeas corpus application by tomorrow if the Republic continues to deny him something as basic as his right to counsel,” he said.
The lawyer also criticised what he described as the treatment of Ghanaian citizens in matters involving foreign law enforcement agencies, suggesting that the handling of the case sets a worrying precedent.
“Today, it’s a supposed ‘fraud boy’. Tomorrow it will be a politician,” he cautioned.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ghana Police Service and other relevant authorities had not publicly responded to Barker-Vormawor’s allegations.
