Authorities in the Upper East Region have asked all third-year male students of Bolgatanga Technical Institute to leave the school after reports of a planned attack that could cause violence and damage to school property.
School management said the students must leave the campus immediately because of security fears. The order was given by the Upper East Regional Minister and REGSEC Chairman, Akamugri Donatus Atanga, after information suggested that some students were planning to attack parts of the school.
Speaking to students and staff on Wednesday, the Regional Minister said he was worried about the repeated unrest and destruction at the school. He explained that the decision was taken to protect lives and prevent more damage.
He said security agencies received reliable information that some students were planning to create trouble, which could turn into violent clashes and lead to injuries or deaths.
Although he admitted the decision could affect teaching and learning, he said the safety of students and staff is more important. He also warned that students who refuse to obey the order could risk missing their upcoming exams.
