Accra, Ghana – July 17, 2025 — The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the full reinstatement of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in all public Senior High, Technical, and STEM schools across the country, following a directive from His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama.
In a statement released and signed by the Head of Public Relations, Mr. Daniel Fenyi, the GES informed the general public—especially parents, teachers, and stakeholders in the education sector—of the renewed mandate to strengthen school-community collaboration for improved educational outcomes.
“The directive from the President seeks to deepen the involvement of parents, communities, and teachers in the delivery of quality education to Ghanaian learners,” the statement read. “In line with this, the Management of GES has instructed all Heads of Public Senior High, Technical and STEM Schools to operationalise the reinstatement of PTAs with immediate effect.”
The GES added that comprehensive guidelines detailing the structure, roles, and financial accountability mechanisms for the effective functioning of PTAs will be released soon. These guidelines aim to ensure transparency, uniformity, and efficiency in the operations of PTAs nationwide.
GES further emphasized the importance of stakeholder cooperation in the successful implementation of this policy. “We count on the support of all stakeholders to ensure the smooth and effective implementation of this important policy,” Mr. Fenyi stated.
The restoration of PTAs is expected to improve communication between schools and families, enhance school governance, and provide additional support for teaching and learning activities.
