A man 44, identified as a headteacher of a basic school has been found dead in a guest house in Akatsi in the Volta Region, with police investigating the cause of his death.
The deceased, Selorm Kwaku Tettey, popularly known as “TK”, was the headteacher of Glikpome Basic School in the Akatsi South Municipality. His body was discovered at the Joli Bebe Guest House around 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
According to reports, a staff member of the guest house entered the room to carry out routine cleaning and found Mr. Tettey lying unresponsive on the bed.
The Akatsi South Municipal Director of Education, Karim Ayaana Umar, confirmed the incident but said he could not comment further because the Ghana Police Service and the deceased’s family had not yet released official statements.
Information gathered indicates that Mr. Tettey’s wife became worried after several attempts to reach him by phone failed. She later reported the matter to the Municipal Education Directorate and, together with the Municipal Director of Education, went to the Akatsi Municipal Police Command to lodge a complaint.
While they were at the police station, officers received a report that a man had been found dead in a room at the Joli Bebe Guest House. Police immediately visited the scene, where the deceased was identified as Mr. Tettey.
Assembly Member Wonder Gatepe said guest house staff informed him after discovering the body. He said he rushed to the scene and found the headteacher lying motionless on the bed before police officers arrived to begin their investigations.
He also revealed that a bag containing educational materials, a mobile phone, canned malt drinks, and other personal items was found in the room. According to him, there were no visible injuries or signs of physical violence on the deceased’s body.
Police investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the headteacher’s death.
