Basic school teachers have expressed their displeasure following the announcement by the Education Minister to changing the usual trimester system to semester. Again, the various teacher unions in Ghana have voiced out that the education ministry took the decision without consulting them.
Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has disclosed that his outfit re-instated the trimester system for pre-tertiary institutions to satisfy the demands of teacher unions.
After further consultation on the issue, the Hon Minister of Education on 21st January, 2022, directed to re-instate the trimester system, the calendar for KG to JHS although he has information to believe that both systems are effect.
According to him,
“If going trimester is what would make them(teachers) happy, since we are going to attain the same goal at the same number of weeks, why not? I didn’t find it difficult at all to say that I would be on the side of the teachers who believe the trimester was better,” Dr. Adutwum said on Citi TV on Monday January 24, 2022.
The basic schools pupils will now be in school from January to April 14 for the first term and resume on May 10 to August 18 for the second term. The third term will begin from September 13 to December 22, 2022.

I do not think we know what we are about. Too many misinterpretations and mixed implementation plan. NOT GOOD. Especially when Physical Education and Health, although curriculum was painstakingly prepared, does not feature in the confusing implementation process. God help us but we need to help ourselves. Let think from a wholistic and harmonized perspectives.
