The Ghana Education Service (GES) has opened applications for suitably qualified serving teachers and officers to be considered for promotion to the ranks of Deputy Director, Assistant Director I, Assistant Director II, and Principal Superintendent.
For promotion to Deputy Director, applicants must have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Director I in or before 2022 and must have remained continuously at post since their promotion, except for periods of approved leave of absence.
Applicants seeking promotion to Assistant Director I must have been promoted to Assistant Director II in or before 2022 and remained continuously at post. For Assistant Director II, applicants must have been promoted to Principal Superintendent in or before 2022 and remained continuously at post.
For the rank of Principal Superintendent, applicants must have been promoted to Senior Superintendent I in or before 2022 and remained continuously at post. Officers who have obtained an approved undergraduate degree may also apply for upgrading to be placed on the rank.
The GES has also clarified the conditions for teachers and officers seeking to use Master’s or PhD certificates to join the promotion interviews out of turn. The relevant Master’s or PhD certificate must not have been obtained before the applicant’s previous promotion. Applicants using such qualifications for promotion to Assistant Director I, Assistant Director II or Deputy Director must have obtained their certificates in or before 2023.

Applicants must upload a passport-sized photograph (in JPEG, JPG or PNG format), their last promotion, appointment or upgrading letter, and the highest academic certificate being used for the promotion application.
All supporting documents, except the passport-sized photograph, must be uploaded in PDF formatand must be clear and legible.
The application window will open on Tuesday, August 19, 2026, and close on Tuesday, September 2, 2026. Eligible teachers and officers are therefore encouraged to submit their applications within the stated period and ensure that all required documents are properly uploaded.
