The newly appointed Director General of Ghana Education Service, Mr. Eric Nkansah (PhD) has received assurance of support from Honorable MPs and Parliamentary Select Committee on Education despite disagreements by teacher unions like NAGRAT on his appointment.
The President of NAGRAT, Mr Angel Carbonou said when addressing a press conference that Dr. Nkansah, with banking and finance background seems unfit to lead Ghana Education Service.
“The authority to appoint Director General of GES is the President of the land. Unfortunately, contrary to what the teacher unions indicated that, we will want a Director General who is a professional teacher, who has passed through the mill, who can bring his knowkdge, skills and influence to bear on the activities of teachers and non-teachers in the GES.
“Contrary to that, the gentlemen who was appointed… is not a teacher, he is banking officer, who was a special assistant in the office of the Minister and has been appointed as the DG of the GES” -Mr Angel Carbonou added.
On Monday October 31, 2022, the Chairperson for the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, Hon. Kwabena Amankwa Asiamah and Ranking Member, Hon. Peter Kwasi Nortsu-Kotoe paid a courtesy call on the Ag. Director-General of GES, Mr. Eric Nkansah (PhD) to congratulate the Ag. Director-General and wish him well in his new role.
The Honorable MPs and members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education further assured Dr. Nkansah of their support and guidance to help GES continously fulfill its mandate.
Dr. Nkansah was appointed by the president of the Republic of Ghana, H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo to office as GES boss effective October 19, 2022 to replace Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa.
