Kumasi, Ghana – September 4, 2023: In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) community is mourning the loss of one of its own, Mr. Prosper Owusu, a third-year Mathematics student, who tragically lost his life on September 1, 2023. The unfortunate incident unfolded during a fire ritual within the Opoku Ware II Hall of the university.

Mr. Owusu was a prominent figure within the Opoku Ware II Hall community, known for his role as the “chief priest” responsible for leading various traditional rites within the hall. These rites have long been a part of the university’s cultural heritage, per graphics reports.

The incident occurred on Friday, August 25, 2023, as Mr. Owusu and a group of students engaged in these traditional activities within the hall premises. Unfortunately, during the course of the ritual, an accident transpired, resulting in Mr. Owusu sustaining severe injuries. Swift action was taken, and he was immediately rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to receive medical attention. Despite the tireless efforts of medical professionals, Prosper succumbed to his injuries, marking a tragic end to his academic journey and leaving the AAMUSTED community in mourning.

Unverified videos circulating on social media depicted a harrowing scene of an individual, presumably Mr. Owusu, whose attire had caught fire while running on the campus grounds. Bystanders rushed to his aid, attempting to extinguish the flames, but the incident left a profound impact on those who witnessed it.

The circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident within Opoku Ware II Hall are currently under investigation by the university management. Authorities are diligently seeking to understand the sequence of events that led to this tragedy.

In response to this devastating loss, the university administration has issued a stern warning to all students, urging them to exercise caution and refrain from engaging in activities that may expose them to risks and unforeseen consequences. The safety and well-being of the student body remain a top priority for AAMUSTED.
