Organisers Of ‘Scam’ Kwahu Teachers’ Excellence Awards Set To Organise Another In Tema & Environs?
Teachers’ Excellence Awards, organisers of Obuoba Teachers’ Excellence Awards (Kwahu) are set to organise second edition of their award scheme in Tema and its environs dubbed: “Habour City Teachers’ Excellence Awards”.
According to a blogpost by onefmonline sighted by sixscribes.com, the second edition which is set to come off on May 1, 2023 at TDC Auditorum in Tema — is meant to cover “teachers and other community members within the geographical area of Tema, Ashaiman, Zenu, Katamanso, Ningo, Prampra, Sakumonoo, Bastonaa, Teshie, Nungua, Spintex environs”.
The mainden edition which took place in Kwahu on December 24, 2022 at Freedom Hills Hotel, saw the chairman, Mr. Michael Fakye, and other organising team members of the award scheme failing to distribute cash and other packages of the prize scheme to individual teachers and non-teaching staff members who emerged winners in various categories.
In Kwahu, the organisers presented sixty (60) categories ranging from ‘Best teacher (30 individual subjects)’ through ‘best support staff’ to ‘best head teacher’, to schools and individual educators. The scheme saw over 140 teaching and non-teaching staff members filling for nominations.
When the chairman of the award scheme was queried about the authenticity of the entire promises, he said that he has spent more money than the money gotten from votes and other donations.
“It’s unfortunate this is how you interpret it. Very unfortunate. How will I engage in a fraudulent act to lose. Do you even have an idea about the total cost incurred and the total sum of votes. The plaques and citations presented there were well over 20,000. The event venue alone was 25,000..
The lights and background, backdrop, coverage, furniture etc . Were way beyond the votes amount. The award prizes alone is almost 50,0000. Do you think this is how a fraudster operates, just to incur debts. Please be more considerate and measured in your language. Thanks.” – Mr. Michael Faakye said.
Currently, the TEA has collaborated with Spring Field Event for the second edition. It has had 170 nominees from over 30 schools, both basic and secondary for the Habour City Edition.
Meanwhile, the scheme seems to be something that has been authenticated by Ghana Education Service, Districts Assemblies and Educational Institutions and schools, as heads of these bodies give a go ahead to the scheme.
