The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with the gruesome murder of Mr. Eric Obeng Darko, the former Headmaster of Dampong Senior High School.
The suspects, identified as Mubarak Mohammed, 38, and Prophetess Elizabeth Darkwah, 48, were apprehended on June 9 and June 17, 2025, respectively. They were subsequently arraigned before the district courts at Kodie and Suame.
According to preliminary investigations, the case traces back to 2024, when Prophetess Elizabeth Darkwah allegedly defrauded the late headmaster under the pretext of helping him unearth an “ancient family gold treasure.” The suspect reportedly convinced the deceased that a hidden cache of gold existed within his lineage, and in a nocturnal visit to his residence in Bampenase, near Mamponteng, she and Mubarak Mohammed unearthed 20 pieces of a yellowish substance purported to be gold.
Darkwah claimed the items needed spiritual purification at her church before they could be used or sold. However, she evaded all subsequent attempts by Mr. Darko to complete the process. Investigations revealed that she later conspired with Mohammed and three other accomplices, who are currently at large, to eliminate the victim.
Police reports indicate that the deceased was abducted and taken to Aboabugya, where he attempted to escape. In the process, he was fatally run over by a Honda Odyssey vehicle driven by suspect Mubarak Mohammed.
The two accused persons have since been remanded into police custody and are scheduled to reappear in court on July 4, 2025. Meanwhile, the police have intensified efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects.
The Ghana Police Service is urging the public to volunteer any information that may lead to the arrest of the other individuals involved in this heinous crime.
