Prestea SHS students protest over dangerous use of school road

Students of Prestea Senior High School in the Western Region have left their classrooms to protest the community’s continuous use of a road that passes through the school campus.

They say cars and motorbikes drive too fast on the compound, causing several accidents and injuring students over the years. In many cases, the drivers run away, and the school is forced to pay the medical bills. The students also complain that the constant movement of vehicles distracts them during lessons and makes the school environment unsafe.

According to them, the community begged to use the school road about five years ago for just three months while fixing their main road. However, even after the repair works were completed, the community never stopped using the campus road.

Videos from the protest show students blocking the road with desks and wearing red bands to show their anger. Police officers have been deployed to keep order.

The Boys’ Prefect, Abdul Basit, said they were tired of the situation. “It’s been five years, and they are still using the campus road. Many of our students have been hit and injured. The overspeeding distracts us, and we cannot continue like this,” he said.

The students want authorities to step in and stop the community from using their campus as a main road.
