Wollacott Declared Fit For Selection After Goalpost Fell On Him [Details]
Ghana goalkeeper Joseph Wollacott pronounced fit after he unfortunately suffered an injury on Tuesday evening while training with his Black Stars teammates at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
According to the Black Stars medical team, the 26-year-old did not sustain any serious injuries that could prevent him from keeping the post for Ghana in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers against Angola.
“He [Wollacott] was immediately assessed by the medical team and given emergency treatment. Wollacott was later reassessed in the medical room at the team hotel and currently, there are no major medical worries since the player is almost pain-free,” GFA said on Wednesday morning.
A mobile goalpost fell on the Charlton Athletic shot-stopper on Tuesday evening when the team was training in Kumasi ahead of their encounter with the Palancas Negras of Angola in the 2023 Afcon qualifiers.
A serious injury could have been a major blow after he was excluded from the Black Stars squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar due to a finger injury in November 2022.
Ghana will host Angola in the first of the two-legged encounters on Thursday, March 23, 2023. The second leg is also scheduled for Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Estádio 11 de Novembre in Luanda.
