13 Confirmed Dead in Tragic Accident on Kumasi-Obuasi Highway

A fatal accident on Monday, October 14, 2024, claimed the lives of 13 people on the Kumasi-Obuasi highway. The tragic incident occurred near Kwapia, close to Obuasi, when a VIP bus traveling from Kumasi to Enchi in the Western North Region veered off the road and plunged into a ditch.

According to police sources, the deceased include seven males, five females, and one child. Several other passengers possibly sustained varying degrees of injuries and have been rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Emergency services, including the police and ambulance personnel, were dispatched to the scene to assist with the rescue and recovery efforts.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, with preliminary findings indicating that speed and poor road conditions may have been contributing factors. The Ghana Police Service has urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly on highways, to avoid further tragedies.

This incident marks yet another tragic event on the Kumasi-Obuasi highway, which has a history of frequent accidents. Calls for road safety measures and better infrastructure in the area have intensified following the latest tragedy.
