Ghana had an electrifying battle against South Korea in their second group H match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup which ended 3:2 for the Africans
FIFA has considered the encounter between the Africans and the Asians as “another contender for game of the tournament”
Ghana scored two goals in the first half of the game with the goals from Mohammed Salisu and Mohammed Kudus. This seemed to be a done deal for the Black Stars until the Koreans fought back to level up in the second half just before the 63rd minutes of play; with both goals by Gue-Sung Cho.
The joy of the Asians were short lived when Gideon Mensah’s cross successfully located Kudus who found the net to make it 3:2. Inaki Williams was credited with the assist after swinging his leg to touch the ball with no effort of scoring a goal.
According to analysis by Opta, South Korea sent in 35 open play crosses in the game against Ghana. 15 of those crosses found a team-mate, which has never happened in a FIFA World Cup fixture in recorded history (since 1966). This explains the kind of pressure they mounted on the black stars, to level up before the end of the game.
A lot of commenters have agreed to FIFA nominations the match as be the best game of the tournament.
