Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, delivered a powerful message to graduates during the 16th Congregation of the Sunyani Technical University (STU) in Sunyani. He emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities to alter Ghana’s trajectory and steer it towards a brighter future.

Addressing the graduating class, Dr. Adutwum highlighted the abundance of opportunities within the country and urged the graduates to harness their potential to drive meaningful change. “I believe the better days of Ghana are ahead of us and not behind us,” he declared, underscoring the transformative role this generation can play in shaping the nation’s destiny.

With a total of 1,863 graduates receiving Bachelor of Technology (B-Tech), Higher National Diploma (HND), and Diploma certificates, the ceremony marked a significant milestone. Notably, efforts to address gender imbalances were evident, with 41.5% of the graduates being females.

In his address, Dr. Adutwum raised concerns about divisive political tactics, describing them as ‘slash and burn politics.’ He called for a shift towards constructive discourse focused on tangible solutions rather than vilifying opponents. Reflecting on Ghana’s resilience amidst challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic, he emphasized the need for collective effort to propel the nation forward.

Meanwhile, Professor Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah, the Vice-Chancellor of STU, announced initiatives to promote inclusivity in education. The implementation of a 20% discount on school fees for female engineering students aims to bolster female representation in the field, aligning with the university’s commitment to diversity.

Offering words of encouragement, Prof. Adinkrah-Appiah urged graduates to embrace entrepreneurship and self-reliance. He emphasized their potential as job creators and encouraged them to leverage their technical and professional skills to establish thriving enterprises.

As graduates embark on their journeys, equipped with knowledge and determination, they carry the responsibility of shaping Ghana’s future. With visionary leadership and collective endeavor, they hold the key to unlocking a new era of progress and prosperity for the nation.
