Joseph Oscar Nii Armah Mettle, popularly known as Joe Mettle adds his voice to the long standing debate among believers of Christ – whether church instrumentalists and singers should be paid or not. The 2017 Ghana Music Award Winner sees nothing wrong with duly appreciating the efforts of musicians in church.

According to the famous gospel star, though some instrumentalists service the church on part-time basis, majority of them spend a lot of time to rehearse, learning songs for Sunday services and other weekly church activities.

“I don’t think there is anything wrong with it. There is full-time, part-time, and there is a service. It depends on how the church systems are. Some churches prefer or want a lot of time from their musicians. They want you to be at every major service early before everyone else. And for you to be doing other things that are also major will make that difficult for you. Most churches actually want their musicians to be at every church function.” -Joe Mettle says this, speaking on GTV Breakfast Show on Tuesday 31st May, 2022.

“There are quite a number of churches that have full-time Musicians who are on payroll. They don’t do any other thing. They come to the church during weekdays just to rehearse and be ready for the service. Most of the time when you go you see the difference in the delivery compared to when the guys will be so busy,”.

Joe seems to agree with the President  of Eastwood Anaba Ministries (EAM) who said weeks ago that church musicians must be paid well for “they carry the fuel for signs and wonders”.

He adds that church music is very important as any other activity in the church. So, paying musicians will help those who have a lot of work to do to offload some and adequately prepare for service.

“It can also help some of the musicians who do too many other things to share off some of those things they are engaged in to spend more time prepping for services, ministrations, and events.” – Joe Mettle.
