Ashanti Regional NSS Director Who Abused Nurse Removed From Gov’t Payroll, Suspended For Two Months
The Ashanti Regional Director of the National Service Secretariat (NSS), Alex Opoku Mensah, has received two months suspension without pay following his verbal abuse on Manhyia Government Hospital staff nurse.
Mr Opoku was suspended on an interim on December 1, 2022 for the NSS officers and other stakeholders involved to embark on thorough investigation into the incident.
Information reaching www.sixscribes.com indicates that the NSS boss has been slapped by the committee of enquiry, with timely suspension which will last for 60 calendar days.
Parts of the letter read: “I wish to inform you that the Committee has completed its assignment and submitted the report to Management (A copy of which is hereby enclosed for your attention). At its sitting on Wednesday 21st December, 2022, the Board after extensively deliberating on the Committee’s report, unanimously adopted the recommendations proffered by the Committee.
On that basis: You are suspended for two (2) calendar months without pay.
After the suspension, you are to report to the Head Office to work under supervision. Within seven (7) days upon receipt of this notice, you are also to issue an official apology to the National Service Scheme for bringing the name of the Scheme into disrepute.”

In a recorded audio that circulated on the internet in November, 2022, Mr. Opoku was heard verbally assaulting one female nurse who had reportedly called a house officer (Mr. Opoku’s Daughter) to return to the hospital and redirect a prescription.
Mr. Opoku used his power to threaten the nurse of the Manhyia facility after raining heavy insults on her, claiming that his daughter is a better person than the nurse.
“you envy her (my daughter), and you don’t respect. Are you a doctor? Do you know who I am? I am the Regional Director of the National Service Scheme. Some of you are under me.” —he said to intimidate the nurse.
The Ashanti Regional NSS boss later apologised for his actions but the harm that had already gone viral called some health associations to demand his immediate removal after the incident.
