The Ghana Paralympic team has reportedly absconded following their arrival in Oslo, Norway, on April 25, 2024. The team was in Norway to participate in the Fjordkraft Bergen City Marathon, scheduled for April 27, 2024.
According to reports, the eleven-member team did not register or participate in the marathon. On April 26, 2024, Nana Antwi, a member of the team, was apprehended by Norwegian security officials while attempting to travel to Sweden on a one-way train ticket.
In response, the Norwegian Embassy in Accra has issued alerts to Schengen and Western Diplomatic Missions in Accra, as well as the European Border Coast Guard Agency, to aid in the apprehension and repatriation of the team members.
Tragically, George Gyamfi Gyasi, the team’s coach, collapsed on April 28, 2024, and was admitted to Oslo University Hospital, UllevΓ₯l, where he passed away on May 17, 2024.
The Ministry of National Security, led by Hon. Albert Kan-Dapaah, has released a letter detailing the incident and its implications. The Ministry is taking steps to address the situation, recognizing its potential impact on future Ghanaian sporting delegations. Attached to the letter are details of the Ghana Paralympic team and other relevant documents.
