CHAN2022: Senegal Beat Algeria 5-4 On Penalties To Win Title
Senegal have beaten Algeria in the finals of the Total Energy Championship game. The lions of Teranga become the first West African Nation to ever win the CHAN title.
Senegal had five teenagers starting for the Teranga lions in the CHAN final but they showed their worth in the midst of the older players.
The young squad did the unthinkable after 120 goalless minutes played, having won 5-4 on penalties against the experienced Algerian side.
DURING THE PENALTY KICKS: (Senegal vs Algeria)
Senegal successfully went right with power for the first goal (1-0).
Goalkeeper for Senegal saved Algeria’s first kick but the assistant referee ruled him off line. The kick was taken again but this time entered the net to make it one all (1-1).
Senegal went high and went good with their second kick(2-1).
Algeria played it calmly into the back of the net with a lot of good composure (2-2)
An 18-year-old champ for the Senegalese side went high and went good on top of the roof (3-2).
Algeria hit a very firmly stroke penalty into the back of the net (3-3).
Captain of the Senegalese side hit the crossbar, missed the first for his side (3-3).
There was no power behind Algeria’s fourth penalty but it hit the back of the net and sent the Senegalese keeper the other way (3-4)
Senegal scored their fourth penalty (4-4).
The climax was there to be taken by Algeria but the player rejected power to go for middle kick. He failed (4-4).
Senegal scored their fifty out of six (5-4)
After six penalties apiece, Senegal claims the title after an Algerian stroke the woodwork in the last kick (5-4).
Senegal are currently the King of African football after wining 2022 AFCON and 2022 CHAN.
