The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has issued a strong warning to teachers across the country to desist from abusing or taking advantage of learners, stressing that such conduct is “unacceptable, punishable, and will be punished.”
Speaking during a Curriculum Review Meeting attended by the Vice President of Ghana, representatives from NaCCA, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), and leaders of various teacher unions, the Minister emphasized the government’s zero tolerance for professional misconduct within the education sector.
“And then to our teachers, while I come to conclude with my introduction — not to abuse and take advantage of learners. That is unacceptable, that is punishable, and that will be punished,” Hon. Iddrisu cautioned.
He further noted that the GES Director-General has the full authority and public backing to enforce discipline among teachers, ensuring that anyone who falls below professional and ethical standards faces the full rigors of the law.
“The Director-General is here, and with his words, no teacher is above the law. Therefore, any teacher found operating below the acceptable standards must face the ruthless, highest actions of the law. You (Director-General) have the state and public backing to do so,” he stated.
The event forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Education to strengthen accountability, uphold professional integrity, and improve the quality of education delivery across the country.
