Ayaase, Ashanti Region – April 23, 2025
A fatal road accident at Ayaase in the Ashanti Region has claimed the lives of eight individuals following a head-on collision between a Mercedes Sprinter bus and a VIP Grandbird bus on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
The crash occurred near the ECG office at Adansi Dompoase along the Bekwai-Fomena highway. According to the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), the Sprinter bus, with registration number GS 6383-20 and carrying 23 passengers from Kumasi to Assin Fosu, was attempting to overtake a Toyota Corolla (GE 7271-24) when it collided head-on with an oncoming VIP Grandbird bus (GW 8455-23) en route from Takoradi to Kumasi.
Six passengers aboard the Sprinter — four men and two women — died instantly. Two more succumbed to their injuries shortly after being transported to medical facilities. Several others, including the driver of the VIP bus, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Fomena Government Hospital and St. Benito Hospital in Dompoase for treatment.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Adiembra Peace Land Mortuary for autopsy and identification.
This latest tragedy has reignited national concern over the growing incidents of reckless overtaking and speeding on Ghana’s highways. The NRSA has renewed its call for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, urging drivers to exercise caution and prioritize safety on the roads.
