English League 1 side Charlton Athletic FC have confirmed the signing of Ghana Black Stars goalkeeper Joe Wollacott on a 3-year deal.
The 25-year-old whose terrific performance won him a spot in the English League Two Team of the Season for the 2021/22 campaign signed with Charlton Athletic FC following the expiry of his contract with Swindon Town FC.
Ben Garner, former manager of Swindon Town FC pulled Wallacot along after moving to Charlton Athletic FC. The goalkeeper in his maiden speech as a Charlton player expressed his joy to joining such a high-profile club.
“I’m delighted. It’s the sort of club that you always want to be at. You always have the ambition to play for such a high- profile club. Obviously walking around the stadium you feel the magnitude of the club. I’m really happy to be here.”
“Ben being here made it an easy decision. He had a really good season last Obviously I know how he wants to play and I know how he wants his goalkeeper to play. I feel like, for the next step in my career, he can really develop my game” – Wallacot added.
Despite all the backlashes from Ghanaians, he was able to keep the post to help the Black Stars of Ghana to secure a 1:1 draw against the Super Eagles of Nigeria – to qualify Ghana for the 2022 World Cup to be held in Qatar. Wollacott has indeed found a dramatic turn in his football career over the past months.
The keeper made the 6th most saves, and had the 3rd highest save percentage in League Two with Swindon Town during the 2021/2022 season.
Joseph Luke Wollacott, born in England to Ghana parents has had 7 caps for the Ghana National team after making his international debut in October 2021.
