Former Germany Captain Lothar Matthäus, Frank Acheampong, Oliver König Buy Accra Lions
Ghana Premier League club, Accra Lions, has been bought by ex-Germany captain and 1991 World Player of the Year, Lothar Matthäus, together with two other partners, Ghanaian footballer Frank Acheampong and football agent Oliver König.
According to the buyer, the players at Accra Lions have proven to be so professional. “the Accra Lions players are so professional. They’re all very talented from what I saw in training. The facilities were good and I want to ensure we improve it more. Beating Aduana Stars, the best team in Ghana this season, after a rough patch in form is the kind of mentality I like. That’s why I’m here”, Lothar Matthäus said.
Lothar Matthäus added: “I like to spend all my time in football. I want to give back to the community. I want to help with my experience. To the Accra Lions players, we know the football a bit longer than you so you can always come to me or anyone in the team for help.”
Frank Acheampong, who is a partner of Accra Lions, aims to develop a world class training center for the Ghanaian team.
It is believed the club was valued around €2 million.
