The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man for impersonating a medical doctor and defrauding unsuspecting victims under the guise of facilitating international travel opportunities.

The suspect, identified as Fredrick Papa Kow-Assifuah, was apprehended on Thursday, June 6, 2025, at Kasoa Crispo City in the Central Region during an intelligence-led operation by officers of the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) Headquarters.

At the time of his arrest, Kow-Assifuah was dressed in a white lab coat with a stethoscope around his neck and had scheduled a meeting with another potential victim he had allegedly lured online.

A search conducted on the premises led to the discovery of several medical items in his possession. These included two stethoscopes, three intravenous (IV) drips, five syringes, two sample bottles, a roll of plaster, six bottles of vaccines, one Ghanaian passport, and a cash amount of GH¢8,500.00.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted to impersonating a medical doctor affiliated with the United Brain Hospital in Mallam, Accra. He further confessed to using this fake identity to establish online relationships with women, promising them travel opportunities to Europe in exchange for money.

According to police sources, the suspect’s operations involved creating a false sense of trust and professionalism to deceive his victims, exploiting their aspirations for international travel and companionship.

Fredrick Papa Kow-Assifuah is currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations. Authorities have confirmed that he will be arraigned before court soon to face charges of personation, defrauding by false pretence, and related offences.

The Ghana Police Service has urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious individuals or activities to help curb the rise in such fraudulent schemes.
