FIFA Footballs for Schools Project Boosts Ghanaian Education
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has received a generous donation from FIFA, the global football governing body, to bolster the implementation of the FIFA Footballs for Schools Project.
FIFA’s contribution includes a generous donation of 30,000 Case 4 Size footballs, intended to be distributed across 6,000 Basic Schools nationwide. These footballs will be made available to pupils between the ages of 7 and 14, providing them with a valuable opportunity to engage in physical activity and develop their football skills.
Collaborating with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and FIFA, GES took a proactive step by training 50 carefully selected Physical Education (P.E) & Sports Coordinators at the Ghanaman Soccer School of Excellence in Prampram. This training focused on utilizing a newly developed FIFA APP, which aims to impart both practical knowledge in football and valuable life skills to identify and nurture talent within schools.
The trained P.E & Sports Coordinators are tasked with further training officials from Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), P.E & Sports Teachers, Sports Secretaries, Classroom Teachers, as well as learners at the Pre-Tertiary and Tertiary levels, and members of the public. This initiative seeks to enhance the utilization of the FIFA APP, which is available to all as a free resource.
The core objective of the FIFA Footballs for Schools Project is to create an inclusive platform for both boys and girls to unlock their full potential, fostering not only athletic excellence but also good citizenship.
Mr. Michael Ntow Ayeh, the Head of P.E & Sports at the GES, expressed gratitude on behalf of the GES Management for the generous donation. He affirmed the Service’s commitment to making optimal use of the footballs and the technical expertise provided.
Furthermore, Mr. Ayeh disclosed that the Greater Accra Region has already received 2,400 footballs following the successful training of their 29 District P.E & Sports Coordinators. The Eastern Region is next in line to benefit from this commendable initiative.
This collaborative effort between GES, GFA, and FIFA represents a significant milestone in bridging the gap between sports and education, empowering young Ghanaians to not only excel in their sporting endeavors but also to become responsible and productive citizens of society.
