Winners Shine Bright at the 2023 CAF Awards in Marrakesh
The 2023 CAF Awards ceremony, held on December 11, 2023, illuminated the night with outstanding achievements in African football. Nigeria emerged as a dominant force, clinching the top honors in both male and female categories.
Victor Osimhen, the prolific striker from Napoli, claimed the prestigious Player of the Year (Men) award. Osimhen’s stellar performance played a pivotal role in securing Napoli’s first Serie A title in over three decades, with an impressive tally of 27 goals across all competitions.
Asisat Oshoala, the dynamic forward for Barcelona, etched her name in history by securing the Player of the Year (Women) award for a record sixth time. Oshoala’s instrumental role in guiding Barcelona to Champions League glory undoubtedly set her apart.
The Interclub Player of the Year (Men) title went to Percy Tau of Al Ahly in South Africa, while Fatima Tagnaout of AS FAR in Morocco claimed the Interclub Player of the Year (Women) accolade.
Exceptional coaching performances were recognized as Walid Regragui of Morocco received the Coach of the Year (Men) award, and Desiree Ellis from South Africa earned the Coach of the Year (Women) honor.
In the goalkeeper category, Yassine Bounou of Al Hilal in Morocco was named Goalkeeper of the Year (Men), while Chiamaka Nnadozie of Paris FC in Nigeria secured the Goalkeeper of the Year (Women) title.
The emerging talents in African football were also celebrated, with Lamine Camara from Senegal (Metz) and Nesryne El Chad from Morocco (Lille) winning the Young Player of the Year awards in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.
On the national stage, Morocco claimed the National Team of the Year (Men) award, and Nigeria earned the same honor in the women’s category.
Club achievements were highlighted with Al Ahly (Egypt) being named Club of the Year (Men) and Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa) securing the Club of the Year (Women) title.
The 2023 CAF Awards not only showcased the prowess of individual players but also celebrated the collective achievements of teams and coaches across the African football landscape.
