The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a strong warning to Heads of Basic Schools following reports on social media about the imposition of unauthorized registration fees for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
In a statement signed by Cassandra Twum Ampofo, Head of the Public Relations Unit, which is released today, February 12, 2025, GES emphasized that such fees are not approved and must be discontinued immediately. The statement further directed Regional Directors to inform District Directors to closely monitor the situation and caution all school heads involved in the practice.
Additionally, GES has ordered all Heads who have already collected these unauthorized fees to refund the monies to the affected students without delay. The Service warned that failure to comply would result in strict sanctions against the offending officials.
GES also reminded school Heads that there will be no provision for late registration of BECE candidates. Therefore, all eligible students must be registered within the official period set by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The general public has been urged to take note of this directive.
