Kofi Akpaloo, the 2024 Presidential Candidate of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), has shared his (unacceptable) thoughts on the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, linking the incident to divine intervention and a warning to politicians.
In a statement on Wontumi Radio following the crash, which occurred on a cocoa farm, Akpaloo said:
“God is not asleep. You saw where the helicopter crash occurred? A cocoa farm. God used the crash as a reminder — don’t lie to cocoa farmers.”
He claimed the crash should serve as a future warning to politicians who make unfulfilled promises to farmers.
“You told the cocoa farmers you would give them GHS 6,000 when you come to power. They believed you, only for you to add just 128 cedis to the price of a cocoa bag. And now, a helicopter crash k!lls eight government officials on a cocoa farm. Is this not a coincidence?”
Drawing comparisons, Akpaloo also referenced an acc!dent involving MP Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, now Minister for Health, as another example of divine symbolism:
“God knew he was going to become health minister. He caused his car acc!dent and was taken to Komfo Anokye. Indirectly, God was telling him — when you become minister, continue Nana Addo’s health projects because they are necessary.”
The former presidential candidate cautioned leaders to take the incident seriously, stating:
“This is not politics. In life, everything happens for a reason. God is reminding you — don’t lie to them again.”
His comments have stirred debate online, with many criticising the politicization of a national tragedy.
