The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that the government has fully paid all outstanding arrears of the Capitation Grant, covering the period from 2023 to date.
In a public statement signed by Mr. Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES, the service commended the government for demonstrating its strong commitment to the smooth running of basic education across the country through the timely release of funds.
The Capitation Grant is a key source of financial support for public basic schools, enabling the purchase of teaching and learning materials, minor repairs, and other essential school-level management activities. GES highlighted that timely disbursement of the grant enhances school autonomy and supports accountability in the delivery of quality education.
GES expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance for prioritising the payment despite ongoing economic challenges. It also praised heads of basic schools for their patience and dedication, ensuring that teaching and learning continued without disruption.
School heads have been urged to use the funds judiciously and in accordance with approved guidelines. GES further noted that district and regional monitoring teams will intensify oversight to ensure the effective and transparent use of the grant.
The statement reaffirmed GES’s commitment to working with all stakeholders to enhance school management systems, improve learning outcomes, and provide inclusive, equitable, and quality education for every Ghanaian child.
