Gospel Singer Ohemaa Mercy Shares God’s Guidance Behind Her Divorce
Renowned Ghanaian gospel singer and minister, Ohemaa Mercy, has opened up about the spiritual journey that led to her decision to divorce her husband. In an exclusive interview on Accra-based TV3, Ohemaa shared that her choice was deeply rooted in her faith and her dedication to serving God.
Ohemaa Mercy, a popular figure in Ghana’s gospel music scene, revealed that she turned to the Holy Spirit for direction, seeking divine confirmation before proceeding with the divorce. According to her, she spent months in fervent prayer, asking God whether ending her marriage was the right course of action.
“I remember during my divorce process, especially during COVID-19, I depended solely on God for direction. I had a strong covenant with Him, spending three months in the mountains praying. I truly wanted to hear God’s voice about my situation, and once I received that confirmation, I made the bold decision. Without that, I wouldn’t have gone through with it,” Ohemaa recounted.
The singer explained that her decision was driven by her desire to dedicate herself entirely to her ministry and to honor God. She felt a strong spiritual calling that required her undivided focus.
“I give God the glory because, even though I am divorced, I’ve never felt God’s presence more strongly in my life than I do now,” she added.
Ohemaa Mercy also revealed that her ex-husband was supportive of the decision. The couple mutually agreed to part ways, recognizing the importance of following God’s direction for her life.
“My partner understood that we needed to go in this direction. We mutually agreed to take a break and continue supporting each other and our children. If I face any challenges, we talk and address them together. My focus is to honor God, and that’s why we chose this path,” she explained.
Despite their separation, Ohemaa emphasized that they maintain a close, supportive relationship. She shared, “We still talk every day and continue to support each other.”
