I Don’t Get It When Music Collaborations Within Africa Is Not Considered ‘International’ — Trigmatic
Most Ghanaians who follow the creative industry call it an international collaboration when performers and creatives from Ghana link up with people from the Americas and Europe.
They seldom call is a global collaboration when the link up is from within Africa, say, Mali, Guinea, Benin, Nigeria, etc.
Ghanaian musician, Enoch Nana Yaw Oduro-Agyei, widely known as Trigmatic has expressed his wild displeasure over the assertions of most Ghanaians, even those in the music industry whom he thought would be more enlightened about such issues.
“I don’t know if we don’t think that moving from here is not an international move or because it is within the African continent it is not big enough. We are always waiting to see it happen within the Americas and the UK,” he said.
According to Trigmatic, it becomes sad when artistes like Bisa Kdei goes to Guinea, Sierra Leone and play major shows but his collaboration with artistes across these countries will ignorantly not be considered as an international collaboration. He added that Guru also “played a show four years ago and it was in a stadium in Sierra Leone and it was packed and it wasn’t spoken of.”
Trigmatic said this on a Twitter space scheduled by Joy FM. He added that although consumers of music do not consider such continental collaboration as international but many African music creatives are making important advancements but there is no effort to acknowledge their inputs.
