A High Court has ruled that Akosua Serwaa cannot be regarded as the sole wife of the late legendary highlife musician, Daddy Lumba, bringing clarity to months of widespread debate and legal disputes over his marital status.
In a decision delivered earlier this week, the court affirmed that the musician had more than one legally recognised spouse. According to the ruling, both Odo Broni, known legally as Priscilla Ofori Atta, and Akosua Serwaa Fosuh qualify as his legitimate wives.
The judgment settles long-running public arguments and legal confrontations over who should perform the widowhood rites, who holds authority over Daddy Lumba’s estate, and who can be rightfully acknowledged as his widow.
The court further stated that Akosua Serwaa failed to present original documentation to support her claim of a civil marriage with the late musician. What she submitted were extracts rather than a certified and authentic marriage certificate, Myjoyonline reported.
This ruling is expected to reshape the ongoing discussions surrounding the estate and legacy of one of Ghana’s most celebrated musicians.
